Music manifests through vibrations which change our experience of a given moment causing joy, pleasure, happiness. And yet, all the way through the making of this album, I returned to a sense of making something physical. Cobbling shoes was the enduring and somehow comforting image that carried me through the process. And so this CD is a physical object. For me, it's proof that it really happened. Some people, like me, want some sort of physical connection with the music they are listening to. If you are one of those people, this option is for you.

about
The words of this song, are based on the Song of the Valkyries written 800 years ago in the Icelandic Sagas. The sagas tell of Darrud, on horseback, cresting a hill and proceeding to a bower. Peering through a window slit of a small cottage he finds there, he sees the Valkyries, weaving on their grisly loom, foretelling the events of our very own Battle of Clontarf. Chancing upon this song from antiquity, the melody of which had been lost, my desire to breathe new life into it was overwhelming, This is a weaving song. The reinvented melody and rhythms try to evoke the loom. I felt the mystery of the human condition, of the “otherness” of people, in the form of the “strange sisters” when writing. It's also a song of sheer grit. Tragedies, small and large, are thrown at us, and we are. nonetheless, bound to keep weaving strong the tapestry of our own lives. I hope the Icelanders approve!
lyrics
This warp is y-woven with entrails of men, woof is hard weighted with heads of the slain,
And spears blood besprinkled for spindles we use,
Weave tight, Weave strong, Weave we strange sisters,
Warwinner walketh she weaves in her turn, Swordwielder step forth, now Swiftstroke, now Storm,
The fate of the world is written in steel,
Weave tight, Weave strong, Weave we strange sisters.
Moon shineth brightly, spin the wheel lightly, weave the cloth tightly (x3)
Blood Red the Sky as Mighty King Falls, Ireland shall grieve and brave men shall fight on,
Our proud Earl is fallen, Ride we swift on,
Weave tight, Weave strong, Weave we, strange sisters, Weave we strange sisters on.
Fa la la la la, fa la la la, fa la la la la la, Fa la la, fa la la, Fa la la la, Fa la la la la la,
The fate of the world is written in steel,
Weave tight, Weave strong, Weave we strange sisters,
Chaos abounding, war cries resounding, feel the ire rising
Sense the blood pounding, chaos abounding, war cries resounding,
Chaos abounding, war cries resounding, feel the ire rising
Feel the ire rising, sense the blood pounding, chaos abounding, war cries resounding
Feel the ire rising, feel the ire rising, feel the ire rising, feel the ire rising
